Direct Filing Addresses for Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization

Alert: Before sending your package to USCIS, make sure that all the forms you have completed are the current acceptable edition. USCIS published new editions for most forms on April 1, 2024. If you downloaded or printed your forms before April 1, you should verify the current edition date, because we will no longer accept a prior edition. The current acceptable edition can be found under the Edition Date section listed on each form’s webpage.

You can also find the edition date at the bottom of the page on the form and instructions. For each form that you are submitting, make sure that all pages are from the same form edition. If any of the form’s pages are from a different form edition, we may reject your form. Watch USCIS Forms: Download the most recent version! to see how to ensure your form is acceptable.

For additional guidance on filing paper-based forms at the Lockbox and how to avoid or correct common errors before you file, please visit the Five Steps to File at the USCIS Lockbox webpage.

Alert Type info

Alert: On Aug. 28, we published a new edition of Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, with an edition date of 08/28/24. Starting Oct. 28, we will accept only the 08/28/24 edition of Form I-765.

Alert Type info

Alert: We have clarified how to submit a request to replace an Employment Authorization Document that has a mistake due to USCIS error.

Alert Type info

Alert: We have updated the filing address to request a replacement Employment Authorization Document (EAD) that contains a mistake due to USCIS error. Please follow the instructions listed below for card replacements due to USCIS error.

If you are permitted to file Form I-765 along with another application or petition because your eligibility for employment authorization depends on the decision or result of that other application or petition by mail, file both forms at the location specified for the other application or petition. For example, if you are filing Form I-765 with Form I-539 or Form I-485 because you need a pending or approved Form I-539 or Form I-485 for approval of your Form I-765, you should file both forms at the location according to the instructions for Form I-539 or Form I-485, whichever applies. See the Filing Form I-765 with Other Forms webpage for more information.

If you are filing Form I-765 at the same time as another application or petition by mail, but your eligibility for employment authorization does not depend on the decision or result of that other application or petition, mail each form in a separate envelope. Do not include the forms in the same envelope. Including unrelated forms in the same envelope may delay processing. Use the information below only when you are not submitting Form I-765 with another application or petition.

If you do not mail your Form I-765 to the appropriate filing location, it may take longer for us to process your application.

Replacement for Card Error

If you believe USCIS has made an error on your EAD, two options are available:

  1. If your request does not require you to submit evidence (for example, the error is a clear typographical error), you may submit a service request via the USCIS website. Please explain the error and include the correct information. Please select the “EAD Replacement due to USCIS Error” option when submitting your request. You must also return the card containing the error to the address below. Note: You must use the United States Postal Service (USPS) when returning your card. The use of other carriers (such as UPS, FedEx, or DHL) is not available for this address.

USCIS
Lee’s Summit Production Facility
Attn: I-765 Replacement Cards
7 Product Way
Lee’s Summit, MO 64002

It will take approximately 30 days from the date the card is received for USCIS to process your request and, if USCIS determines it was due to USCIS error, to issue you a new card. Please retain your tracking information to ensure your card was properly delivered. This processing time frame does not account for USPS mailing/processing.

Please note, if while processing your request we find that the error was not due to USCIS error, you will be notified that you must follow the procedure for when a correction is needed and not due to USCIS error.

  1. If your request requires you to submit evidence to demonstrate the error and necessary correction (for example, the error relates to the EAD’s validity period), or if you would like to use the existing mail-in process, you may submit a letter explaining the error and corresponding evidence, along with the card containing the error, to the address below. Note: You must use the United States Postal Service (USPS) when returning your card. The use of other carriers (such as UPS, FedEx, or DHL) is not available for this address.

Attn: I-765 Replacement Cards

Lee’s Summit, MO 64002

Please note, while the option to mail in your letter and supporting documentation is available, we encourage you to use existing online tools, such as the SRMT, when appropriate. For more information about the SRMT process please visit Chapter 4 – Service Request Management Tool in the USCIS Policy Manual. Utilizing the SRMT may minimize the need for additional correspondence to be sent via mail (aside from your original card) and may help streamline the way in which we process your request.

Please ensure you retain any copies of supporting documentation you send to USCIS.

Asylees/refugees and their spouses and children

(c)(8) – Asylum or withholding of removal applicants except ABC class members as outlined below.

Asylum applicants may not submit a Form I-765 until their Form I-589 has been pending at least 150 days. If we receive your Form I-765 with your Form I-589, we will reject it as premature. This may delay processing of your Form I-589.
