ACT Fire & Rescue seeking the next generation of firefighters

Applications are now open for the 2023 intake of ACT Fire & Rescue’s (ACTF&R) firefighters as the ACT Government continues to invest in emergency services.

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Mick Gentleman saidfirefighters play a critical role in community safety.

“Firefighters are there for Canberrans during disasters big and small, from the 2020 bushfires to the Belconnen supercell storm, house fires, vehicle collisions, animal rescues and much more.

“As Canberra continues to grow, so too does the need for emergency services. We’re committed to a Canberra where everyone can get help when they need it.

“Under the enterprise agreement, the ACT Government has committed to 99 new firefighters. Along with the 16 recruits who graduated into Emergency Services ACT this year, this round of recruitment is a significant step forward in delivering on that commitment.

“If you’re looking for a career with meaningful challenges, I really encourage you to apply,” Minister Gentleman said.

ACTF&R Chief Officer Matthew Mavity welcomed all applicants from a broad range of backgrounds and encouraged those who may not have considered a career with ACTF&R to learn more about the opportunity.

“ACTF&R is a well-respected, high performing and adaptive fire service. We are passionate about community safety, education and prevention and we are seeking individuals that possess the same qualities to join the ACTF&R team.

“Becoming a firefighter is hard but the reward of helping the community in times of hardship is definitely worth the effort. If you care for the community and have an interest in helping others, we welcome your application,” Chief Officer Mavity said.

If you are ready to make a difference to your community and see yourself as an ACTF&R firefighter, apply now at esa.act.gov.au/readywillingable.
